Today we start phase one of changes to our English language requirements!
We're so excited to implement this and want to break down the details as clearly as we possibly can, so scroll through to learn more 👇
Firstly, applicants from overseas can now combine their test scores for up to 12 months and use our updated minimum scores when test combining, but the required scores for the different categories remain the same.
You can input your scores in our handy test combining calculator here: https://fal.cn/3vHUU
But what do the new test combining rules mean? You still need to achieve the required scores in all four domains across two tests. But now you can combine your scores across two test sittings taken up to 12 months apart, rather than the previous six month limit.
We’ve also standardised the minimum scores we allow when you combine your test scores, so if you miss one of the required scores by 0.5 (IELTS) or half a grade (OET) you may still be able to combine this test with another test of the same type to meet our requirements.
This means that the minimum writing score has changed to 6.0 (IELTS) or C/250-290 (OET). But remember: you must score at least 6.5 (IELTS) or C+/300-340 (OET) in writing in your second test sitting to be able to combine this score.
The second change we're making today is accepting supporting information from employers for applicants who trained in English in a country where English is not a majority spoken language and are working in an unregulated role in UK health and social care.
Those applicants must have been working in a health and care setting for at least one year. We’ll also ask for evidence that their training and assessment was in English.
Phase two will be coming in the summer, and we'll keep you updated with developments.
